Shalom Group: Indigenous Lands of Belle Isle
November 23, 2025 10:45am
Address: Abiding Presence Lutheran Church, 1550 Walton Blvd., Rochester Hills, MI US 48309
Room: Fellowship hall
Join us in Fellowship Hall to hear the Detroit Historical Society's Education Coordinator, Cate Waldecker, share the long history of Indigenous land stewardship on Belle Isle and how those practices were transformed with the arrival of Europeans. The presentation will explore how Native peoples lived in relationship with the land and water, the cultural and spiritual importance of the island, and the ways that colonization disrupted traditional lifeways. Join the Shalom group for refreshments and to gain a deeper understanding of both the resilience of Indigenous communities and the lasting impact of European settlement on the region.
